USATalks.com To Buy Flat-Rate Long Distance
Competitor
Flat-rate long distance provider USATalks.com Inc., San Diego, announced that it has
agreed to acquire a Northeast competitor and that it has completed the first phase of its
planned voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) telephony network.
USATalks announced early in August it will buy Total Communications Plus Inc. (TCP),
Easton, Md., which has built a 10-city VoIP network, and offer flat-rate long distance
service to 35,000 consumers on the Delmarva Peninsula–Delaware, Maryland and Virginia
East Shore. About the same time, the company also announced completion of the first phase
of the nationwide network with the installation of its New York Super point of presence
(POP). The second phase of the domestic network expansion will add 15 more Super POPs
across the country and expand the service area to an additional 200 markets. By fall, the
company says it expects to cover areas representing two-thirds of the U.S. population.
