Ceterus Does Ethernet Only
October 25, 2005
Ceterus Networks has added a new, Ethernet-only box to its Universal Transport System product line, which to date has consisted entirely of multiservice solutions.
Jim Tindall, vice president of product marketing, says the UTS810 is the first device for cost-optimized Ethernet. He says it is aimed at both enterprise and service provider customers looking for a low-cost solution for delivering Ethernet between a half a megabit and 12 megs. Among the service provider applications for the UTS810 is 3G cellular backhaul.
The UTS810 employs circuit bonding based on the ITUs VC over PDH standard, which was approved in the summer of 2004. Greg Colandrea, director of product marketing at Ceterus, says that the standard is the clear winner in bandwidth utilization, noting that its overhead is 25 to 35 percent less than that of competing options.
The UTS810 will be generally available starting next month.
