Ceterus Ethernet Access Platform Expands Reach for Service Providers
October 25, 2005
Ceterus Networks (Booth 1612), a provider of flexible transport solutions, announces the release of the UTS810 Ethernet Access Platform, the latest addition to the Ceterus Universal Transport System product family. The UTS810, with its circuit-bonding capabilities, enables low-cost delivery of dedicated Ethernet services over copper to customers in the critical 5mbps to 10mbps segment.
Carriers recognize the growing demand for Ethernet at schools, medical centers and other distributed enterprises, and need ways to deliver these services cost effectively. Using the robust and ubiquitous T1 network allows carriers to deliver Ethernet services quickly in an inexpensive and flexible manner to reach every customer on the copper network.
The UTS810 bonds multiple T1s into a single virtual pipe using the International Telecommunication Unions new standards for circuit bonding over copper. This bandwidth-efficient technology means carriers can better utilize their assets, and enterprises can receive new Ethernet connectivity with the high quality, low jitter and latency they expect.
Millions of dollars are spent unnecessarily by carriers to deliver lower-speed Ethernet services over new fiber when they could use their existing, nearly ubiquitous T1 network. Extending the reach of Ethernet to all locations in a cost-effective manner is critical to carriers as they extend their Ethernet services, says Michael Howard, principal analyst at Infonetics Research. The non-ubiquitous fiber footprint today artificially limits Ethernet services adoption, so products like the Ceterus UTS810 give carriers useful, pragmatic tools to expand their Ethernet access. Carriers gain additional savings when using T1 circuits, in that the OAM&P procedures are in place and familiar.
Ceterus Networks Vice President of Product Management Jim Tindall says, The UTS810 affords service providers an extremely cost-effective option for those locations that require an Ethernet-only solution. Our product family now meets the carriers requirements to reach all locations including those with both Ethernet and TDM-based services, as they continue to migrate toward an all-packet environment, as well as those that have already moved to a pure packet infrastructure.
Designed for delivery of enterprise Ethernet services as well as for cell tower and WiMAX backhaul, the UTS810 is NEBS-3 certified and hardened for outside plant applications.
