Digium Expands Bandwidth.com Relationship, Intros Larger Appliance

Size does matter. Thats the message at NXTcomm from Digium Inc., creator of the Asterisk open IP PBX solution.
At the show the company is highlighting its relationship with Bandwidth.com and previewing a new, larger Asterisk appliance.
Bandwidth.com operates the largest network built around Asterisk to date, with 1.2 billion voice minutes on the platform and 48,000 phones connected to it. Founded in 1999, the company sells Internet services, VoIP, SIP trunking, managed services and wireless to business customers.
A long-standing Digium customer, Bandwidth.com also has become a Digium Premier Certified Service Provider. The partnership enables the companies to closely collaborate on new telecommunications services and platforms for business customers.
In addition, Digium will include Bandwidth.com as a VoIP service provider option presented in the Asterisk GUI included in the AsteriskNOW software appliance, the hardware-based Asterisk Appliance and Asterisk Business Edition.
In other big news from Digium, the company is introducing at NXTcomm a new, higher-end Asterisk appliance, said Bill Miller, Digiums vice president of product management and marketing. The original Asterisk appliance topped out at 50 users; this new one can serve up to 500 users, he said. Miller explained the new appliance, which will in betas in August and is slated for production shipments in the fourth quarter, will enable both enterprise and service provider customers of Asterisk to more easily scale.
