When TelePacific Communications bought Mpower Communications Corp. in August, it also took on that carriers successful wholesale division. The same people and services now operate under the TelePacific umbrella, giving the California-based CLEC another line of business.

TelePacifics Russ Shipley

The move is significant for TelePacific, which has made its name as a retail carrier. TelePacific now provides wholesale private line, local dial tone, PRI, colocation, and metro and intercity fiber networks to CLECs, ISPs and other providers.

All of the services are rebrandable, notes Russ Shipley, senior vice president of wholesale and network services, and wholesale customers get dedicated support. For example, TelePacific offers direct NOC-to-NOC support as well as unique locations for calling in repair and special-handling requests. Shipley adds TelePacific is investing in local service offices and expanding its fiber-network reach.

The new TelePacifics Cisco-powered MPLS IP network with QoS consists of a facilities-based Tier 1 infrastructure, 13 switches, 331 colocations and 514 wire centers, due to the buyout of Mpowers SONET-based metro and intercity fiber networks and colocations.
