Romania-headquartered security specialist BitDefender has put its Security for Virtualized Environments (SVE) offering on the newly launched AWS Marketplace. The security and central management functionalities of BitDefender SVE are now available to customers running virtual machines on Amazon’s (NASDAQ: AMZN) Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2).

SVE uses AWS APIs to deliver centralized management of both Windows and Linux systems. SVE also deduplicates and centralizes much of the scanning functionality through a single virtual appliance, increasing the scanning performance and reducing resource consumption within the protected instance, according to the company.

“Becoming a member of the AWS Marketplace ecosystem is a proud moment for us, as there is now an enterprise-level choice of security for public and private cloud users, no matter what size,” said Robert Krauss, director of Enterprise Sales and Alliances at BitDefender North America, in the press release. “Organizations run a variety of platforms both in the cloud and potentially in data centers concurrently, and need to run a single comprehensive security solution. Security for Virtualized Environments included in AWS Marketplace means that organizations can benefit from the same advantages as if they were using SVE in their traditional data center.”

BitDefender also announced the expansion of its Partner Advantage Network to enhance the offerings of enterprise-level service providers, VARs, distributors and system integrators. And in November 2011, BitDefender launched its Cloud Security for Endpoints security-as-a-service product for customers and service providers.
