EgnytePlus Platform Provides Cloud-Enabled File Sharing
October 12, 2012
Egnyte has unveiled a partner platform to work with other vendors and partners in the cloud space to provide customers with cloud-enabled storage and file sharing. The new EgnytePlus platform will be used to certify products that integrate with Egnyte products based on tests around functionality, reliability and performance.
At the same time, Egnyte announced the first few products that have been certified — IBM N-Series and DS-Series Storage, NetApp FAS Unified Storage, Netgear ReadyNAS and Netgear ReadyDATA and Synology DiskStation.
According to Vineet Jain, co-founder and CEO of Egnyte, this new program to grant certifications to products that work with Egnyte for cloud-based storage and file sharing came about because enterprise customers want “the utility of the cloud combined with secure on-premise storage.” EgnytePlus, combined with the first storage products to get certified, will do that, he said in a prepared statement.
“The cloud is married to any number of users, any number of offices, and any number of access points or devices to create a cohesive extended workplace for today’s enterprise employee,” Jain added.
EgnytePlus was designed to leverage hybrid cloud technology for delivery of flexible online file sharing to local storage. According to Egnyte, users will be able to access files from anywhere with any device, get uninterrupted access when online or offline, collaborate in real time across multiple teams and offices, back up files safely to the cloud (with remote data replication, immediate online data recovery and data encryption), and sync files across multiple storage devices and offices. For IT admins, there’s granular control of user access and folder permissions to limit the files individual or groups of users have access to.
However, Egnyte is trying to tie all of this into more traditional storage, as well. The company has added a few traditional storage tiers to the products, including a sharing tier, a replication tier, an archive tier and a mobile tier.
