Channel Futures: Why did you want to take this role with Skyhigh Security?
Scott Goree: I could not pass up an opportunity to partner with Paul Barbosa and Gee [Rittenhouse, Skyhigh Security’s CEO] again. We worked closely together on Cisco’s security go to market (GTM). With their leadership, we will be investing in the channel to drive profitable growth and scale. I trust their commitment to channel-led selling. Additionally, the SSE focus is becoming clear with our customers and partners. It’s exciting that leading analysts recognize Skyhigh Security as a leader with an exciting vision for our customers and partners. I am responsible for our global channel ecosystem, including SIs, resellers, MSP/MSSP, and distributors. This also includes our alliance partnerships.
CF: What is your take on Skyhigh Security’s channel strategy since its launch earlier this year? Are any changes needed?
SG: It’s early, but we are seeing investment in the channel, starting with people. Jeff Tripp’s and my addition to the team should signal to our partners that Skyhigh is committed to the channel. We will be focusing on three guiding principles as I lean into the strategy. First, we want partners to be profitable when doing business with. Second, we will strive to be easy to do with. Lastly, we want to ensure we are bringing programs to our partners that attract demand from our customers.
CF: Will you be building a new/expanded partner program? If so, what will be the process and timeline?
SG: We will begin by listening to our trusted partners and alliances before crafting the Skyhigh partner program. You can expect more announcements on our program as we get closer to our fiscal year 2023 in January.
CF: How will your previous experience come into play in this new role?
SG: I feel as my career has prepared me for just this moment and could not be more thrilled to lead the channel at Skyhigh. My previous roles have all been global and all channel sales, from Cisco to Pure Storage, to Nutanix. Each was extremely dedicated to a partner-centric model. Additionally, I believe that my experience with distributors plays a vital role as they are the glue between many partner types. It’s no longer just a distributor-to-reseller-to-customer world. We will need to unlock the value of SI, SP, ISV, MSP/MSSP, marketplaces and resellers.
CF: What are the biggest issues facing Skyhigh Security partners? What will be your role in addressing those?
SG: It is early to assess, but I believe the change from McAfee and the relationship with Trellix may have confused some partners. We will work to build and rekindle the partner relationships to drive profitable growth together.
CF: How do you plan on giving Skyhigh Security and its partners a competitive advantage?
SG: Our engineering and R&D teams give us an extreme competitive advantage as shown by our leader status in the latest Gartner Magic Quadrant for SSE as well as the “Customers’ Choice” award in the Gartner “Voice of the Customer” report. It will be the channel’s job here at Skyhigh to mirror that innovation with a simple and profitable partner program. I look forward to getting out there and listening to partners to help guide our evolution.
