Capricorns, consider yourselves warned. Newton N. Minow
(Jan. 17, 1926)
Minow, appointed as chairman of the FCC by John F. Kennedy, is best known for his Vast Wasteland speech given to the National Association of Broadcasters in 1961. Minow was known to be one of the most controversial FCC officials, and it is even said that the S.S. Minnow of the 1960s TV show Gilligans Island was named for him as an expression of the producers disagreement with Minows stance on the quality of television programming.
