Direct marketing firm TMONE, which serves providers, has taken over the 27,000-square-foot Iowa City, Iowa, call center formerly used by MCI Inc.

The company said it is working to sign new VoIP subscribers and will hire close to 1,000 employees, including students attending the University of Iowa, to make telemarketing calls, send direct mail and perform Internet marketing.

We are happy to locate ourselves in Iowa City and the old MCI facility is a perfect fit, said John Burchert, COO. TMONE will be immediately adding over 200 jobs to the Iowa City-Cedar Rapids technology corridor, many of which will require the same skill sets as the positions eliminated by MCI.

Companies such as 8×8 Inc. use TMONE to help them acquire more users.
